|Bangladesh Youth and Cultural Shomiti (BYCS)is an incorporated charity providing vital services for our local community in the Highfields and St Matthews areas of Leicester. Established in 1974, BYCShas become a trusted and high quality learning provider offering positive outcomes for individuals, families and employers from all communities, but predominantly those from the black and ethnic minority community.Our purpose is to help our customers achieve positive progression, using learning and training and employability support to move closer to the labour market and to progress within it. We are based on two sites in Highfields, one is our UK Online centre, the other is called the Bangladesh Action Resource Centre (BARC) and is home to our community and other learning activities.We are managed by a Board of Directors / Trustees and employ eight full time and 18 part-time staff. We also retain the services of a number of sessional tutors and volunteers enabling us to provide intensive support to those that need it the most.
BYCS is a quality assured organisations and we hold the following main accreditations: Matrix, Investors in People and the Legal Services Commission quality mark. We also have an active equalityand diversity policy which drives our commitment to supporting the exceptionally diverse community in Highfields and throughout our city.
Our services are focused in five main areas: adult education, learningand training (accredited and non-accredited); pre-employment support and information, advice and guidance; support for children and young people; services for the elderly and disabled people, particularly benefit advice and day care; and support services for employers and their workforce. BYCS has a prestigious track record in identifying local need and addressing it through the use of funding derived from learningand regeneration programmes. We have experience of delivering activity across many previous and current government, local and voluntary sector programmes including: the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB), Adult and Community Learning Fund, the European Social Fund (ESF), European Regional Development Fund, Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (ERDF), Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities, Working Neighbourhood Fund (WNF), the Children’s Fund, the Parenting Fund, the Future Jobs Fund, various National Lottery Funds including the Transition Fund .
In 2011, BYCS received the prestigious Future Jobs Fund Outstanding Training Employer Award presented by Leicester City Council.
